Trail Construction PSA

Stumphouse Mountain Bike Park is seeing a much larger number of people coming to ride the trails.

It is concerning that many people are ignoring trail closure signs.

This is very dangerous!

The trail builders are still operating heavy equipment and machines are pushing down trees in order to clear and finish trails.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT from Black Diamond Trail Designs
10/14/23

If you see a trail taped off, do not enter it.

If you see a trail with a closure sign, do not enter it.

Trails are closed down for several reasons. One being your safety. The other being the integrity of the freshly built trails. Especially with the rain we will be seeing in the upcoming months, it is important that everyone stays off of fresh, unopened trails. We make our trail closures painfully obvious. The soil on those trails is much too soft for bike tires, and they will be opened when we have deemed them rideable, just as we have done with the other 5 newly opened trails.

In addition, it's important that everyone stays off the opened downhill flow trails for 24 hours after it rains. Once again, the trails are very fresh and soft, so rain is only going to intensify that until it has dried out. When you ride our fresh trails immediately after rain, it ruts the trails, and we have to go fix it to prevent deeper ruts that will continue to hold water. That keeps us from making forward progress on new trails. We want everyone to enjoy the new additions to the park, but please use common sense, and be responsible.

Updates from Black Diamond Trail Designs and the Facebook user page

New Trail Info:

  • Downhill flow trails and 7 are downhill only.

  • There is no signage until the project is complete, as we (Black Diamond Trail Designs) are not responsible for the signs. That's the City of Walhalla’s responsibility.

  • The only trail with trail direction based on date is the ‘lake loop’ trail. Its one way for first two weeks of the month; then switches to other direction. There’s a sign at the trail head at the top of boundary where boundary and lake loop intersect.

  • You can ride boundary 12, 13 either way/direction.

  • The pro line is being designed for the top maybe 10% of riders. It starts with a mandatory 18 foot gap and only increases in difficulty from there. That's why we are building trails for everyone so no one feels left out.

Recently Opened Trails as of 10/14/23:

  • A green downhill flow line and a blue downhill flow line, up by the preexisting black flow.

  • There's a green to blue connector (closed), and a blue to black connector (closed) already finished as well.

  • Within the next week or two we will also have finished a pro downhill line that will be closed until its packed in well.

  • After that there are 3 more trails being put in (2 blue xc, and a green adaptive trail.), so be on the lookout over the next few months.
